Notes[]

  • Due to the coronavirus pandemic, The playoffs were held in two "hub" cities both in Canada; Edmonton, Alberta at Rogers Place, and Toronto, Ontario at Scotiabank Arena. The Conference Finals and 2020 was played at Rogers Place in Edmonton.[14]
  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[15] and the cross-border travel restrictions imposed by the Government of Canada, the league temporarily realigned this season into four divisions with no conferences. Consequently, the first two rounds of the playoffs featured intra-divisional matchups, with the higher seeded teams receiving home-ice advantage in those rounds. In the Stanley Cup Semifinals, the four remaining teams (one from each division) were reseeded based on their regular season records. After initially stating that the Campbell and Wales trophies would not be awarded this season,[16] the league decided in June 2021 that the Montreal Canadiens and Vegas Golden Knights would play for the Campbell Bowl and the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning would play for the Wales Trophy.[17]
  • The New York Islanders' play-by-play announcer Brendan Burke filled in for NBC Sports' lead play-by-play announcer Kenny Albert as Albert missed that game to attend his daughter’s high school graduation.[7]
  • 2022 - ESPN announced Friday, June 10 that ABC will simulcast Game 7 of the Lightning-Rangers NHL Eastern Conference Final on Tuesday if that game occurs. It would be the first game of the playoffs on broadcast television. Coverage would also air on ESPN and ESPN+.[18] However, it was not necessary since the Lightning win the series in 6 games.

Note[]

  • On May 19, 2007, during the Stanley Cup playoffs, NBC angered many fans and journalists when it pre-empted coverage of the overtime period of the tied Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres, a game where the Senators could potentially advance with a win, instead going directly to pre-race coverage of the Preakness Stakes horse race. A typical "Triple Crown" horse racing broadcast generally contains about two hours of pre-race coverage, with the actual races lasting two or three minutes. Coverage of the overtime period was shifted to Versus,[109][110] the league's cable partner, although viewers in Buffalo and Rochester were able to continue watching the game on local NBC affiliates in the respective markets, WGRZ and WHEC-TV.[158][159] As a result, many hockey fans did missed the series-winning overtime goal scored by Daniel Alfredsson at 9:32 of overtime.[111][112].
