Lisa Steffes (born January 16, 1992 in Amherstburg, Ontario)[1] is a women's ice hockey player.
Playing career[]
She competed for the Bluewater Jr. Hawks (based out of Strathroy) of the Provincial Women's Hockey League from 2008 to 2010. In her first year with Bluewater, she helped the Hawks finish third in 2008-09. The following season, Bluewater had a fourth place finish. Steffes was part of the Bluewater team that won the championship at the 2009 Stoney Creek Tournament. In addition, she was with Bluewater when they enjoyed a third place standing at the Winterlude Showcase Tournament.
She saw limited action in 2009-10 due to injuries. In her final season with Bluewater, she appeared in 18 games with four shutouts, a 2.01 goals-against average and .931 save percentage. Ally Tarr, one of her teammates at Bluewater, played with her at Ohio State. [2]
Hockey Canada[]
Steffes was selected to be on the 2009-10 Team Ontario Red, which competed at the 2010 Under-18 national championships but a concussion forced her to not participate.[3] She participated in the Canadian National Women's Program Strength and Conditioning Camp in April 2009 and May 2010. [4] In addition, Steffes was invited to the Canadian National Women's Under-18 Team Selection Camp.
NCAA[]
She was in net for the sweep of Robert Morris in a non-conference road series (Oct 8-10, 2010). She allowed only one goal in each game. Steffes stopped 40 of the 42 shots on goal in both games. In addition, she faced in the series for a .952 save percentage. In addition, she also helped blank the host Colonials on all seven of their weekend power-play opportunities.
On January 14 and 15, 2011, she led visiting Ohio State to a pair of 3-2 league road victories at Minnesota State. She made 49 saves in OSU’s first WCHA road sweep of the season. She made 28 saves on January 24 and made 21 saves the following day. Her save percentage for the two games was .925. For the season, she surpassed the 700-save milestone. She is one of only two goalies in the NCAA to already reach the 700-save mark and she also leads all NCAA Div. 1 women’s goalkeepers in minutes played this season with 1454:50.[5]
