Lauren Barch was a member of the Laurier Golden Hawks women’s ice hockey program. Upon graduation from Wilfird Laurier (with an honours degree in psychology), she was the second leading scorer with 108 points for the Golden Hawks.[1] After her playing career, Barch became a competitive fitness model.[2]
Playing career[]
On March 6, 2008, Barch earned her first national award by being named to the second All-Canadian team. A few weeks later on April 7, 2008, she won the Laurier President's Award (awarded to Wilfrid Laurier University's most outstanding male and female athletic performances over the past year). Barch led the Golden Hawks in scoring with 31 points. This included a team-high 15 goals in the regular season. She contributed to the Golden Hawks fifth consecutive OUA banner and a silver CIS medal.
During the 2007-08 season, Barch played a key role on the penalty kill, with five short handed goals.[3] In a match of nationally ranked teams, Barch scored the overtime winner as #3 Wilfrid Laurier defeated #8 ranked Guelph on November 3, 2008.[4] Barch scored two goals on November 1, 2008 as Laurier dumped Brock by a 3-0 score.[5] She scored a game winning goal versus the Brock Badgers in a 2-1 victory contested January 17, 2009.[6] On January 24, 2009, Barch scored the 100th point of her career as the Golden Hawks defeated the Waterloo Warriors by a 4-1 tally at Columbia Ice Fields.[7]
Lauren Barch tallied a goal and three assists as Laurier used six unanswered goals to defeat the No. 6 Ottawa Gee-Gees in the opening game of the 2009 CIS national championships on March 19, 2009.[8] The Golden Hawks would qualify for the gold medal game but were outmatched by the McGill Martlets hockey squad. Despite losing by a 3-1 mark, Barch was the only player who scored a goal on McGill goaltender and Olympic gold medallist Charline Labonte.[9] Barch would finish the tournament as its leading scorer with eight points.
