The Latvia men's national ice hockey team is currently ranked 10th in the world by IIHF World Ranking. The team is controlled by the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation. Its current head coach is Bobs Hārtlijs. Their best finishes ever at the World Championships were in 1997, 2004 and 2009 where they finished 7th. Latvia has 7,000 players (0.36% of its population).
