History[edit | edit source]

The Lakeshore Bruins were a junior B team that played in Toronto; in the area of southern Etobicoke near Lake Ontario. They played in the Metro Junior B League from 1953-54 thorugh 1960-61 (except for the 1954-55 season, when the team was known as the Flashers).

In those years NHL teams sponsored junior teams. Each team had an exclusive area 50 miles in radius from its home arena. The Boston Bruins had requested and received permission from the Toronto Maple Leafs to operate the Lakeshore Bruins. Their sponsorship ended in 1961 and the team was known as the Goodyears.

In 1957-58 the Bruins made it all the way to the Sutherland Cup final (Ontario Junior championship) which they lost to Sarnia.
