The La Ronge 89ers are a men's senior hockey team established in 2005. The team was created in 2005 when the JRMCC Arena was completed. The team name is taken from the year 1889 when the Lac La Ronge Indian Band signed the adhesion to Treaty Six under Chief James Roberts Band. The team played in the Treaty Six Hockey League for the 2006-07 season. The team played in the Beaver Lakes Hockey League for the 2015-16 to 2017-18 seasons. The team would have to withdraw from the league late in the season including forfeiting their last two games and not participating in the playoffs. The team would be granted a leave of absence for 2018-19 due to a lack of players. Due to being down to three teams the league itself would go on hiatus for the 2018-19 season.
