The LIU Sharks are a men's NCAA Division I ice hockey team that began play with the 2020-21 playing season. The team is playing as an independent for the 2020-21 season, but has a scheduling agreement with Atlantic Hockey. The Sharks play home games at the same venues as the school's women's team—the Iceworks in Syosset, New York and the Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, New York.
Start of the men's program[]
On April 30, 2020 the university announced the start of a men's Men's Division I program to begin with the 2020-21 season. At the time of announcement, it was unknown whether the team would play as an independent for the 2020-21 season or if they were attempting to join a conference. No head coach was announced and that a national search would begin for a head coach.[1]
Brett Riley who previously serves as the assistant coach of the Colgate men's ice hockey team was named head coach on May 26, 2020.[2]
