The LIU Sharks are a men's NCAA Division I ice hockey team that began play with the 2020-21 playing season. The team plays appears to be playing as an independent team for the 2020-21 season. It has yet to be announced where the team will play but the women's team is based out of the Iceworks in Syosset, New York and the Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, New York.

Start of the men's program[edit | edit source]

On April 30,2020 the university announced the start of a men's Men's Division I program to begin with the 2020-21 season. It is unknown as of the time of the announcement if the team will play as an independent for the 2020-21 season or if they are attempting to join a conference. No head coach was announced and that a national search would begin for a head coach.[1]

Brett Riley who previously serves as the assistant coach of the Colgate men's ice hockey team was named head coach on May 26, 2020.[2]
