Korbinian Holzer (born on February 16, 1988 in München) is a professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing with the Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg of the KHL. He was selected 111th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft[1].

Club career[]

Holzer's youth team is the TuS Geretsried. In the 2004-05 season played Holzer with the EC Bad Tölz U18 of the DNL.

He made his senior debut in the 2005-06 season when he played 36 regular season games and 10 relegation games with the Tölzer Löwen of the 1. Eishockey-Liga while he also played 2 games with the EC Bad Tölz U18 of the DNL.

In the 2006-07 season played Holzer with the Eisbären Regensburg of the 1. Eishockey-Liga.

Next three seasons spent Holzer with the DEG Metro Stars of the DEL.

In 2010, Holzer moved to North America. In the 2010-11 season, Holzer played 2 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL and 73 games with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. Holzer then spent the whole 2011-12 season with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

In the 2012-13 season, he played 22 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL and 46 regular season games and 8 play-off games with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. Then spent Holzer again the entire 2013-14 season with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Holzer finally made a breakthrough in the 2014-15 season when he played 34 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL and 9 games with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. In the middle of the season, he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL where he finished the season as a healthy substitute but did not make an appearance on the ice.

In the 2015-16 season, Holzer played 29 games with the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL and also 9 games with the San Diego Gulls of the AHL.

After that, Holzer played the whole 2016-17 season with the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL.

In the 2017-18 season, he played 16 games with the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL and 9 games with the San Diego Gulls of the AHL.

The next season spent Holzer again with the Anaheim Ducks organisation. He played 22 games with the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL and 12 games with the San Diego Gulls of the AHL.

Holzer began the 2019-20 season with the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL. He played there 46 games in this season before being traded to the Nashville Predators of the NHL where he finished the season with only 3 games played.

After this season, Holzer returned to Europe and signed a one-year contract with the Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg of the KHL.

International career[]

Holzer played with the German National Team at the 2005 World U17 Hockey Challenge, 2005 and 2006 World U18 Championships, 2007 World Junior Championship, 2008 World Junior Championship Division I (winning there gold), 2010 Olympics and at the 2010, 2011, 2016, 2018 and 2019 World Championships (being named one of the top 3 players on the German team at the 2019 tournament).
