The Kazakhstan Championship is the top level of ice hockey in Kazakhstan. The league was established in 1992, following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

History[]

In 2009, the league welcomed two expansion teams, Arlan Kokshetau and Beybarys Atyrau as part of a reported effort to expand the league to more cities across the country.

League expansion continued for the 2010-11 season, with two more teams announced: one to be based in Termitau, the other from Almaty. There was also an unanimous agreement by the league members that the 2009-10 edition of the Kazakhstan Cup would be played just before the 2010-11 season.
