The Kam River Fighting Walleye are an expansion junior A team that began play in the Superior International Junior Hockey League in the fall of 2020. The team was announced in February of 2020.[1] The team is actually the Thunder Bay Fighting Walleye organization moving up from the Junior B level of play in the Lakehead Junior Hockey League. As of the announcing of the hiring of a head coach.
The Kam River moniker is taken from the Kaministiquia River which runs through the city of Thunder Bay an is frequently shortened to Kam River.
The team would win the 2023 Bill Salonen Cup playoffs and would advance to the 2023 Centennial Cup where they were eliminated in the round robin portion of the tournament.
