Juuso Puustinen (born on April 5, 1988 in Kuopio) is a Finnish ice hockey right/left winger currently playing with the Sibir Novosibirsk of the KHL. He was selected in fifth round, 149th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.[1]
Club career[]
Puustinen played junior hockey with the KalPa organisation. In 2006, he moved to North America to play with the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL for two seasons. In each of these seasons he played two games on loan for the Suomi U20 of the Mestis making his senior debut.
In 2008, Puustinen moved back to Europe and signed with the Blues of the SM-liiga where he spent two seasons. In his first one, he had most assists by rookie (20) and most points by rookie (33) throughout the SM-liiga. After that, he signed with the HPK of the SM-liiga and played there during the 2010-11 season.
In 2011, Puustinen tried to push himself into the NHL playing with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL. He played there two seasons, but did not succeed to proceed into the best hockey league worldwide.
In 2013, Puustinen signed with the HIFK of the Liiga (formerly SM-liiga) and stayed there until the end of the 2016-17 season.
For the 2017-18 season, Puustinen transfered to the JYP of the Liiga. JYP won the CHL in this season. In September 2017 was Puustinen named the Liiga Player of the Month
Since 2018, Puustinen is playing in the KHL. He played the 2018-19 season with the Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. In this season played Puustinen also at the 2019 KHL All-Star Game and was named the KHL Forward of the Week on September 17, 2018. Since 2019, he is playing with the Sibir Novosibirsk and is signed there until the end of the 2020-21 season.
International career[]
Puustinen played as a member of the Finnish National Team at the 2005 World U17 Hockey Challenge, 2006 World U18 Championship (winning the silver medal) and at the 2008 World Junior Championship.
