The Johnstown Chiefs is a professional ice hockey team of the ECHL based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The club was founded in 1988 and established in the All-American Hockey League; when the ECHL was created, the Chiefs moved there. It is the only ECHL's original team to still sport its original name, which was taken from cult hockey movie Slap Shot as a play on the movie's team's name, the Charlestown Chiefs, and to still be located in its original city. After the 2010 ECHL season the team plans to move to Greenville, South Carolina due to lack of interest in local ownership.
