Joe Schaefer

Joe Schaefer (December 21, 1924 – December 27, 2000) was an American professional ice hockey goaltender. He was born in Long Island, New York, and played in two games for the New York Rangers.

He played some minor pro hockey before being hired as the New York Rangers assistant trainer, practice goalie, and emergency backup goalie. Schaefer was pressed into service twice when Rangers' regular goalie Gump Worsley was injured. The first time was on February 17, 1960 and the second was March 8, 1961.
