James Robert McTaggart (born March 31, 1960 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan) is a retired Canadian ice hockey defenceman who played for the Washington Capitals. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Capitals in 1979 and played parts of two seasons with the club.
After playing junior hockey in the Western League, McTaggart turned pro with the Capitals in 1980-81. After playing part of the 1981-82 season for the Capitals, he went into the mnor pros where he stayed until his retirement in 1984.
He made a one-year comeback in 1987-88 with the Peterborough Pirates in Great Britain.
In his NHL career, he played in 71 games, scoring 3 goals and 10 assists.
He has served as an assistant coach for the Seattle Thunderbirds.
