Playing career 2007–present

Jiří Sekáč (born on June 10, 1992 in Kladno) is a Czech professional ice hockey left winger. He is currently playing with the Avangard Omsk of the KHL.

Club career[]

Sekáč began his junior career with the HC Kladno organisation. In 2009, he moved to North America in order to play with the Peterborough Petes of the OHL. However, he played there only 8 games before he moved to the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL. He finished there the season with 38 games played. After that, Sekáč continued with the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL in the next season.

In 2011, he returned to Europe and played 36 games with the Lev Poprad of the KHL and 6 games with the Tatranskí Vlci of the MHL in the 2011-12 season.

After the 2011-12 season, the Lev Poprad was dissolved and the HC Lev Praha of the KHL was founded instead. Many players from the Lev Poprad continued with the HC Lev Praha including Jiří Sekáč. In the 2012-13 season, Sekáč played 26 regular season games and 3 play-off games with the HC Lev Praha of the KHL and 21 games on loan with the HC Sparta Praha of the Tipsport Extraliga.

Sekáč continued with the HC Lev Praha of the KHL until its dissolution after the end of the 2013-14 season.

In 2014, Sekáč again moved to North America and signed with the Montréal Canadiens of the NHL. He played there 50 games before he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL where he finished the 2014-15 season with 19 regular season games and 7 play-off games played.

Sekáč also began the next season with the Anaheim Ducks organisation. He played 22 games with the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL and 1 game with the San Diego Gulls of the AHL before he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL. He played there 6 games before he was put on the waivers. Later, he was claimed off waivers by the Arizona Coyotes of the NHL where Sekáč finished this season with 11 games played.

In 2016, Sekáč returned to Europe and signed with the Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL. He stayed there until the end of the 2018-19 season. In the 2017-18 season, Sekáč became the KHL Gagarin Cup champion and was also named the KHL Forward of the Week on September 25, 2017. In the 2018-19 season, he was named the KHL Forward of the Week on January 7, 2019.

In the 2019-20 season played Sekáč with the CSKA Moskva of the KHL.

In 2020, Sekáč signed a one-year contract with the Avangard Omsk of the KHL. In this one season with the Avangard Omsk, he became the KHL Gagarin Cup champion for the second time.

International career[]

Sekáč played with the Czech National Team at the 2010 World U18 Championship, 2012 World Junior Championship, 2014 World Championship and at the 2018 Olympics.
