Jesper Sellgren[1] (born on June 11, 1998 in Örnsköldsvik) is a Swedish professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing with the Frölunda HC of the SHL on loan from the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL. Sellgren was selected in the sixth round, 166th overall, of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes.[2]

Club career[]

Sellgren played junior hockey with the MODO Hockey organisation. He made his senior debut in the 2016-17 season when he played 3 regular season games and 6 play-off games with the MODO Hockey under-20 team and 50 games with the MODO Hockey of the HockeyAllsvenskan.

In the 2017-18 season played Sellgren 6 play-off games with the MODO Hockey under-20 team and 43 games with the MODO Hockey of the HockeyAllsvenskan.

Following the conclusion of the 2017-18 season, Sellgren left his hometown team to sign a two-year contract with the Luleå HF of the SHL on March 28, 2018.[3]

With Luleå HF during the 2018-19 season, Sellgren recorded 15 points in 52 regular season games and 6 points in 10 play-off games. At the conclusion of Luleå HF's season, Sellgren signed a professional try-out with the Carolina Hurricanes' AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.[4] He finished there the season with 11 play-off games played and became the AHL Calder Cup champion.

On May 28, 2019, the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL signed Sellgren to a three-year, entry-level contract.[5] Sellgren spent the 2019-20 season on loan with the Luleå HF of the SHL.

In the 2020-21 season played Sellgren on loan with the Frölunda HC of the SHL.

International career[]

Sellgren played with the Swedish National Team at the 2016 Wolrd U18 Championship (winning there silver) and at the 2018 World Junior Championship (winning there silver as well).
