Jack Shewchuk

Jack Michael Shewchuk (June 19, 1917 – May 15, 1989) was a NHL defenceman for the Boston Bruins. He was born in Brantford, Ontario.

He played junior hockey for the Sudbury Wolves and the Copper Cliff Redmen. Shewchuk was with the Redmen when they lost the 1936-37 Memorial Cup Final.

The Boston Bruins signed him in 1937 and he played the 1937-38 and 1938-39 seasons with their farm team the Providence Reds. The following season he played full-time with the Bruins but split the 1940-41 season between the Reds and the Bruins. Despite the split he got his name on the Stanley Cup in 1941. He continued with the Bruins until 1943 when he joined the Canadian military during World War II.

After the war he played the 1944-45 season for the Bruins. After that he joined the Hershey Bears and the St. Louis Flyers of the American Hockey League. Starting in 1948 he Shewchuk played for the senior Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen for three seasons. His last year was 1951-52 for the Brantford Redmen.

He coached the Senior B Woodstock Athletics as they lost the provincial finals in 1955-56 and the Brantford Bears in 1967-68.
