An excellent player, a brilliant leader, and best remembered as the man who first organized a hockey club, the Winnipeg Victorias, in the City of Winnipeg on November 3, 1890. Played in the first hockey game in the history of Manitoba on Saturday afternoon, December 20, 1890. Armytage was captain of the Victorias until his retirement at the end of the 1897 season. His greatest game was on February 14, 1896 in a sudden death game for the Stanley Cup when he scored the winning goal in 2-0 victory over Montreal, bringing the Cup west for the first time.
