The Iowa Hawkeyes are a men's club hockey team that is sponsored by the University of Iowa which is located in Iowa City, Iowa.  The team is based out of the Coral Ridge Arena in nearby Coralville, Iowa.

The team was established in 1974 and has played in various adult leagues over the years.  The team presently plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association's Division 2.

The school is in the process of getting a new arena built in Coralville that will seat 4,200 and hopefully be completed in early 2019.  The facility is tentatively named the Iowa Sports Arena Project.  The facility will also have a practice facility and other smaller athletic facilities in the structure.  The new facility is reported to also be the destination of an expansion United States Hockey League when it opens.

While no formal announcement has been made the speculation is that this will lead to an annoucement that the school will begin a NCAA Division I men's program sometime in the 2018 to 2020 time range.  As the school is a full member of the Big Ten Conference there is expected to be no issues with the school finding a conference for the team.  No information is given hinting at the possibility of a women's program being developed at this point in time.
