Intermediate was the level of amateur ice hockey below Senior in Canada. The first mention of this level of play goes back to 1888, when the AHAC Intermediate competition was staged. The Hardy Cup served as the national Canadian Intermediate championship from 1968-1990. Since then, most Canadian amateur leagues have simply been referred to as "Senior", though all competitions below Senior AAA (which is the level required for Allan Cup eligibility) are de-facto Intermediate.
