Influenza is an infectious disease caused by a virus.
Its most famous connection to hockey came during the epidemic of 1918-1919. Joe Hall of the Montreal Canadiens died during the 1919 Stanley Cup Finals in Seattle. His death caused the cancellation of the series and the Stanley Cup was not awarded that season.
