The Hyannis Youth and Community Center is an ice skating rink in the town of Barnstable, Massachusetts. It consists of two rinks, one being named after the late Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., who was killed when his B-24 Liberator exploded during a bombing mission. The smaller capacity rink is named after a Barnstable philanthropist, Patrick Butler, who died in 2009
History[]
The rink is a successor to the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Memorial Skating Rink, the main rink for the town of Barnstable. It consists of two skating rinks, with rink one having a 1,500 person capacity, rink two with a capacity for 250, a gymnasium, a youth center, a three lane walking track, and other amenities.
The facility was home to the Cape Cod Barons (later known as the Cape Cod Bluefins) of the Federal Hockey League from December 10, 2010 when they relocated from Chenango, New York until the team suspended operations on December 15, 2012.
The facility is scheduled to host the 12th Annual Women's Hockey East Championship on March 8th and 9th, 2014.
