Hammarby IF Hockey was a professional ice hockey team from Stockholm, Sweden, and played at Hovet arena. The ice hockey association of Hammarby was founded in 1920. Hammarby had played in the modern top Swedish league Elitserien for two seasons (1982-83 and 1984-85), and historically they played in the top league from the start of the national leagues in 1922 until the 1956-57 season, and in the seasons 1958-59 through 1960-61, 1965-66 and 1968-69. Hammarby had won eight Swedish Championships (1932, 1933, 1936, 1937, 1942, 1943, 1945, 1951).
In the spring of 2008, Hammarby was in big economical problems. The ice hockey section of the club put themselves in liquidation and ceased to exist.
