The Halpenny Trophy was competed for by the teams of the Western Canada Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

It was donated by Dr. J. Halpenny of the University of Saskatchewan in 1922. It stayed in play until 1950. In that year it was awarded permanently to the University of Alberta after that school had won it in every season that it was competed for since 1933.

The trophy was replaced by the Hardy Trophy.
