History[edit | edit source]
HC Budivelnyk was first created on March 16, 2010 when the KHL announced to the public that a letter of intent had been signed between the league and team president Bogdan Gulyamov.[1] The agreement stipulates that financial terms and requirements must be made clear by April 1. A formal press conference was held March 24, at which they announced a logo design contest, the upcoming website, and explained the fundamentals of the project to create the team.[2] As April passes, the chances for Budivelnyk's entry in the KHL keep increasing, as financially-plagued Lada Togliatti is said would be sent to the Vysshaya Liga for a couple seasons, until it can straighten its economy. Budivelnyk would take its place in a 24 teams KHL. The league is reportedly eager to experiment with an NHL-sized rink like that Budivelnyk would use[3]
On April 18, Budivelnyk announced it hired Oleg Kupriyanov as first general manager in the franchise's history.
