GreensGenerals

The Greensboro Generals were an ECHL team that played from 1999-2004. The franchise replaced the Greensboro Monarchs, who called the city home from 1989-1995.

The city also hosted the Carolina Hurricanes from 1997-1999 until a new arena could be built for them in Raleigh.

All three teams played at the Greensboro Coliseum.

The Greensboro Generals name was originally used by the city's Eastern Hockey League and Southern Hockey League franchises. The EHL team played from 1959 through 1972, and the SHL team played from 1973 through the league's mid-season failure in 1977.
