The George Pearkes Arena is part of a larger recreation facility also named for George R. Pearkes, a recipient of the Victoria Cross for his actions during the Battle of Passchendaele during World War I. Mr. Pearkes would later serve as a member of Pariliament. The facility contains two sheets of ice, a fitness centre and a youth centre. The arena is home to the Saanich Braves of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League.
