Frederik Tiffels (born on May 20, 1995 in Köln) is a German professional ice hockey left winger currently playing with the EHC München of the DEL. He was drafted 167th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Club career[]
Tiffels began his junior career in the 2007-08 season with the Krefelder EV 1981 U16 of the Schüler-BL.
In 2008 - 2010, he played with the Kölner EC U16 of the Schüler-BL.
In the 2010-11 season, he played 4 regular season games and 5 play-off games with the Mannheimer ERC U16 of the Schüler-BL and 36 regular season games and 4 play-off games with the Jungadler Mannheim U18 of the DNL. In this season, Tiffels became the Schüler-BL champion.
In the 2011-12 season played Tiffels with the Jungadler Mannheim U18 of the DNL and became the DNL champion.
In 2012, Tiffels moved to North America in order to play the 2012-13 season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. In this season, Tiffels received selection to the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
Tiffels also began the 2013-14 season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL but after just 13 games played, he moved to the Fargo Force of the USHL. He played there 12 games before moving to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the USHL for the remainder of the season. He finished there the season with 31 regular season games and 4 play-off games played.
In 2014 - 2017, Tiffels played with the Western Michigan Univ. of the NCAA.
Tiffels concluded his collegiate career by agreeing to a two-year, entry-level contract with the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins of the NHL, on 22 June 2017.[1] In the 2017-18 season, he saw the ice in 12 AHL contests (two goals, one assist) with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins,[2] while appearing in 44 ECHL games (16 goals, 17 assists) with the Wheeling Nailers.
On September 22, 2018, he inked a three-year deal with the Kölner Haie of the DEL.[3]
In 2021, he signed a one-year contract with the EHC München of the DEL.
International career[]
Tiffels played with the German National Team at the 2011 and 2012 World U17 Hockey Challenges, 2011 and 2012 World U18 Championships, 2013, 2014 and 2015 World Junior Championships (being selected one of the top 3 players on the German team at the 2015 tournament) and at the 2017[4], 2018[5] and 2019 World Championships.
