The Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs were a Senior AA men's hockey team based out of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. They joined the North Central Hockey League (Alberta) for the 2019-20 season. The Chiefs played their home games in the Jubilee Recreation Centre in Fort Saskatchewan. The Chiefs hosted the 2021-22 Hockey Alberta Senior AA Provincial Championship - they were undefeated in the round robin portion of the tournament and lost the gold medal game to the Lacombe Generals. In October of 2022, the Chiefs announced that they were folding due to player commitment issues. Prior to the 2023 AGM, the Chiefs management notified the league that they would be shutting down operations while extensive renovations were being done to the Jubilee Recreation Centre and expected to potentially return for the 2025-26 season.

History[]

The Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs, also previously known as the Fort Hotel Chiefs, were a Senior AAA hockey team based in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.  They had competed in the Chinook Hockey League since 2003-04 until ceasing operations on October 31, 2018.

The 2005-06 season was the Chiefs most successful as they posted an 18-3-3 regular season record, and defeated both  the Bentley Generals and Stony Plain Eagles to win the provincial title and a berth in the 2006 Allan Cup.[1][2]  At the Allan Cup tournament, they advanced past the quarter-finals with a 5-2 win over the Weyburn Devils, before losing the semi-finals match to the Whitby Dunlops by a score of 4-0.[3]

The Chiefs were eliminated in the Chinook Hockey League's semi-final by the Innisfail Eagles 4-games-to-1.[4]
