Filip Zadina (born on November 27, 1999 in Pardubice) is a Czech ice hockey right/left winger. He is currently playing with the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL. Zadina was selected 6th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
Club career[]
Zadina began his junior career with the HC Pardubice (later HC Dynamo Pardubice) organisation. He made his senior debut in the 2015-16 season when he played 2 games with the HC Dynamo Pardubice of the Tipsport Extraliga. In this season, Zadina also played 6 regular season games and 6 play-off games with the HC Dynamo Pardubice under-18 team and 19 games with the HC Dynamo Pardubice junior team.
In the 2016 CHL Import Draft, Zadina was selected by the Vancouver Giants of the WHL in the 1st round, 4th overall. He did not report to the club, instead choosing to stay with Pardubice.[1]
In the 2016-17 season, Zadina played 20 games with the junior team of the HC Dynamo Pardubice and 25 regular season games, 2 relegation games and 2 Tipsport Extraliga qualification games with the HC Dynamo Pardubice of the Tipsport Extraliga.
Zadina reentered the 2017 CHL Import Draft and was selected in the 1st round, 11th overall by the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL.[2]
Zadina played his first season for the Mooseheads in 2017-18. He appeared in 57 regular season games, scoring 44 goals and 38 assists for 82 points. He added another 12 points in 9 play-off games. At the end of the season, Zadina led all rookies in the QMJHL in scored assists, goals and points. He was selected into the QMJHL All-Rookie Team, QMJHL First All-Star Team and won the Mike Bossy Trophy for the best professional prospect.
The 2018-19 season was Zadina's first fully senior season. He played 9 games with the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL scoring 1 goal and 2 assists for 3 points and he also appeared in 59 regular season games and 5 play-off games with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL scoring 35 points in the regular season and 3 points in the play-offs.
In the 2019-20 season, Zadina played 28 games with the Red Wings registering 8 goals and 7 assists for 15 points in total and also playing 21 games with the Griffins scoring 9 goals and adding 7 assists for the total of 16 points.
At the beginning the of the 2020-21 season, Zadina was loaned to the HC Oceláři Třinec of the Tipsport Extraliga to play there until the North American season starts. After 17 games played, Zadina returned to the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL where he finished the season with 49 games played.

Zadina also played with the Czech National Team at the 2015 World U17 Hockey Challenge and at the 2016 World U18 Championship (where he was named one of the top 3 players on the Czech team). He was named to the 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and played in 4 games, adding 5 goals and 2 assists. He was tied for the leader in points of the tournament and also helped lead Czechia to a gold medal in a 4-3 win against the United States.[3] After that, Zadina played at the 2017 World U18 Championship where he was again named one of the top 3 player on the Czech squad. Zadina was also named to the Czech team for the 2018 World Junior Championship.[4] The Czech's finished fourth, with Zadina scoring 7 goals with an assist in 7 games and being selected into the tournament's all-star team. He also participated at the 2019 World Junior Championship.

Zadina's father, Marek Zadina, is a former professional ice hockey player who currently works as an assistant coach for HC Oceláři Třinec of the Czech Extraliga.[5]
