Filip Král was born on October 20, 1999 in Blansko. He is a Czech ice hockey defenceman currently playing with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. He was selected 149th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

Club career[]

Král began his junior career with the HC Kometa Brno organisation. He made his senior debut during the 2016-17 season when he played 13 regular season games and 6 play-off games with the HC Kometa Brno under-20 team, 23 regular season games and 5 play-off games with the HC Kometa Brno of the Tipsport Extraliga and 12 games on loan with the SK Horácká Slavia Třebíč of the WSM Liga. In his first senior season, he helped the HC Kometa Brno win the Tipsport Extraliga title.

Král began the 2017-18 season with the HC Kometa Brno of the Tipsport Extraliga. He played there 4 games and also played 3 games on loan with the SK Horácká Slavia Třebíč of the WSM Liga before moving to North America to play with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. He finished there the season with 54 regular season games and 5 play-off games played.

Král continued with the Chiefs until the end of the 2019-20 season. After the season, Král signed a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs organisation and was sent to Europe to play with the HC Zubr Přerov of the Chance Liga (formerly WSM Liga). After scoring 2 goals and 10 points in just 7 games with the HC Zubr Přerov, Král was assigned to play with the HC Kometa Brno of the Tipsport Extraliga. He finished there the European season with 48 regular season games and 9 play-off games played. Then he moved back to North America to finish the season with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

International career[]

Král played with the Czech National Team at the 2015 World U17 Hockey Challenge, 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament (winning the gold medal), 2017 World U18 Championship and at the 2018 and 2019 World Junior Championships.
