NJCAA

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), founded in 1938, is an association of community college and junior college athletic departments throughout the United States of America. It is held as Divisions and Regions. The current NJCAA holds 24 separate regions.

The NJCAA organized an ice hockey national championship from 1972-2017. It was an invitational tournament until 2011. Dakota-Bottineau won the final NJCAA national championship in 2017.

The final edition of the tournament was marred by an incident involving Erie Community College player Brandon Day who would skate out of the penalty box and level a referee. The incident occurred with 39 seconds left in the 3rd period. The game was subsequently ended and awarded to Dakota College at Bottineau. Video of incident
