The Edmonton Eskimos were, at various times, a professional, senior, and junior team in Edmonton, Alberta.
Senior & Pro[]
The Eskimos started out in the Edmonton City Hockey League in 1911-12. They played there for four seasons, winning the league three times. They won the provincial title in 1913 & 1915, each time losing the subsequent Allan Cup playoff.
After taking a hiatus during World War I, the Eskimos came back in the Alberta Big Four League in 1919-20. This league used reinstated pros so was not recognized as a senior amateur league. The Eskimos won the league title in 1920 and beat the Moose Jaw Maple Leafs in an unofficial final in the 1919-20 Western Canada Allan Cup Playoffs. The team lost the league final in 1920-21.
They then became part of the newly-formed major league Western Canada Hockey League in 1921-22. They played in the league for five seasons, winning the league title in 1922-23 and losing the 1923 Stanley Cup Finals.
After that league folded in 1926 the Eskimos played one season in the Prairie Hockey League in 1926-27.
They came back as a team in the Western Canada Hockey League (minor pro), winning that league title in the league's only season, 1932-33. The Eskimos then moved to the North West Hockey League for three seasons before folding.
The team was briefly ressurected in 1938-39 when it joined the Alberta Senior Hockey League. This was the last appearance of the name in hockey.
