East Berlin

East Berlin was the eastern part of Berlin that was occupied by Soviet troops at the end of World War II.

It was the capital of East Germany for the entire time of that country's existence (1952-1990).

East Berlin had a population of about 1,200,000.

In 1990 it was reunited with West Berlin to re-form the city of Berlin.
