Dominik Furch (born on April 19, 1990 in Praha) is a Czech professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently playing with the Dinamo Minsk of the KHL.
Club career[]
Furch played junior hockey with the HC Slavia Praha organisation and in the 2006-07 season he was also loaned to be the second goalie with the HC Velké Popovice junior team. He made his senior debut in the 2007-08 season playing 7 games with the HC Slavia Praha[1] of the Tipsport Extraliga winning the Tipsport Extraliga title and 2 games on loan with the HC Havlíčkův Brod of the 1. Liga.
In the 2008-09 season, he played 11 games with the HC Slavia Praha junior team, 18 regular games and 13 play-off games with the HC Slavia Praha of the Tipsport Extraliga and 2 games on loan with the HC Havlíčkův Brod of the 1. Liga.
In his last junior season, the 2009-10 season, he played 9 regular season games and 1 play-off game with the HC Slavia Praha junior team, 8 regular season and 4 play-off games with the HC Slavia Praha of the Tipsport Extraliga and 22 regular season and 3 play-off games.
In the 2010-11 season he played 7 regular season games and 3 play-off games with the HC Slavia Praha[2] of the Tipsport Extraliga and 30 regular season games and 4 play-off games on loan with the HC Berounští Medvědi of the 1. Liga.
After that, he played 33 regular season games and 5 relegation games with the HC Slavia Praha and 17 games on loan with the HC Berounští Medvědi in the 2011-12 season.
In the 2012-13 season, Furch played 33 regular season games and 7 play-off games with the HC Slavia Praha and 5 games on loan with the HC Berounští Medvědi.
In 2013 - 2015, he continued with the HC Slavia Praha of the Tipsport Extraliga.
In 2015, Furch signed with the Avangard Omsk of the KHL and stayed there until the end of the 2017-18 season. In the 2015-16 season, he became the KHL Goaltender of the Month in December 2015. In the 2016-17 season he was named the KHL Goaltender of the Week on August 28, 2016 and in the season 2017-18 season, he was selected to be the KHL Goaltender of the Week on August 28, 2017.
After that, Furch spent the 2018-19 season with the Severstal Cherepovets of the KHL.
On May 2, 2019, Furch signed his first contract in Sweden as a free agent, agreeing to a one-year deal with the Örebro HK of the SHL.[3] As the starting goaltender for the Örebro HK, Furch enjoyed a successful 2019–20 season, posting a 2.26 goals against average in 46 regular season games.
In the off-season, Furch opted to return to the KHL, agreeing to a one-year contract with Belarusian club, the Dinamo Minsk, on July 3, 2020.[4]
International career[]
As a junior, Furch represented the Czech Republic at the 2007 World U18 Championship and a year later at the 2008 World U18 Championship Division I where the Czech Republic won the gold medal and was promoted into the Elite Division for the next championship and Furch with the tournament's best goals against average was selected to be the tournament's best goaltender.
One year later, he played at the 2009 World Junior Championship.
He was also a part of the Czech National Team at the 2016 and 2017 World Championships and at the 2018 Olympics, but played only at the 2016 tournament. At the 2017 and 2018 tournaments, Furch was just the second goalie. At the 2016 tournament, Furch had the tournament's best goals against average and the best save percentage and was named one of the top 3 Czech players at the tournament.
