Playing career[edit | edit source]
He played junior hockey for the St. Michael's College Majors from 1955 to 1958. After a year with the senior Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen Mattiussi turned pro with the Rochester Americans in 1959-60. He played in the American Hockey League (AHL) until the 1967-68 season when he was called up to the expansion Pittsburgh Penguins for 32 games.
Mattiussi was traded to the Oakland Seals in January, 1969, and played parts of three seasons for the team. In 1971 he returned to the AHL and played three seasons in the league, ending up with the Rochester Americans in 1973-74. He was named the coach of the Americans in 1974 and played three games in 1975-76 while coaching the team.
In the NHL, Mattiussi played in 200 games and scored 8 goals and 31 assists.
