The Des Moines Oak Leafs were a minor professional team founded in 1961 in Urbandale, Iowa. They played their home games at the Des Moines Ice Arena.

Initially members of the United States Hockey League (from 1961 to 1963, at a moment where the league was semi-professional), the Oak Leafs joined the International Hockey League in 1963. The team played in the league until 1972; on that year, they were renamed the Des Moines Capitols.

History[]

Cliff Pennington holds the distinction of being the team's only player to score 100 points in a season; he did so in 1969-70.
