Debra Ferguson (born August 17, 1970[1]) was an ice hockey player for the York Yeowomen (now known as Lions) women’s ice hockey team.


Playing career[]

York University[]

Ferguson was the winning goalie at the 1997 OWIAA gold medal game in Waterloo, Ontario as York defeated the Toronto Lady Blues by a 3-2 mark in overtime. [2] She made 45 saves in the game.[3]


She participated in the longest hockey game in Canadian women's university sport history. She was in net for five hours and 10 minutes against the University of Toronto Lady Blues on February 11, 2000. Rhonda Mitchell of Toronto scored the final goal in the eighth period to give her team a 2-1 win over York. The game had extra meaning as it was the Ontario University Athletics women's hockey championship semifinal. Ferguson made 63 saves in 125 minutes.[4]
