Denis "D. J." Smith (born May 13, 1977 in Windsor, Ontario) is a retired professional ice hockey player who played 45 games in the National Hockey League. He played with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche.

He is currently an associate coach of the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL.

He played junior hockey for the Windsor Spitfires and waas chosen 41st overall by the New York Islanders in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. In March, 1996, he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs with Mathieu Schneider and Wendel Clark.

Over the next five seasons Smith spent most of his time with the St. John's Maple Leafs, playing in only 11 games for Toronto.

He ended up with the Colorado Avalanche with whom he played 34 games in 2002-03. He retired in 2004.

In the NHL he played in 45 games and scored one goal and one assist.
