The Crete Memorial Civic Center is an indoor arena located in Plattsburgh, New York. The arena was built in 1974. A renovation to the facility was done in 1984 to make the facility the permanent home of the Plattsburgh Pioneers of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The renovations took longer than expected and the team had to open the season playing out of the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena on the campus of Plattsburgh State University. The arena was finally completed in time for the Pioneers to play a couple of games out of the facility before the team folded due to financial losses and non-competitiveness with and 0-16-1 record. The team had been restricted to American players by the league as the other owners did not want the French speaking kids living in the US. Recruiting was difficult for the team as anyone playing for the team would be considered ineligible to play NCAA hockey. The facility apparently has not had ice since the 1990's and has been transformed into an indoor soccer field.[1]
