Overview[]
"Thunder" is the name of the sports teams of the Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE), located in Edmonton, Alberta. The school was previously known as Concordia University of Alberta, Concordia University College of Alberta, and Concordia College. The common name for the team is simply "Concordia Thunder".
The team competes in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), and has done since 1991. The ACAC is affiliated with the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA), the second tier of university/college sport in Canada. They have won one ACAC title. The CCAA has not held a national hockey playoff since 2001. The ACAC is currently the only college league in Canada. However, the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) includes college teams and the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) operates a league of mostly Cégep teams.
(They are not to be confused with the Concordia Stingers of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) league.)
