A College Transfer Team is a team of full time student-athletes registered at one or more local post secondary institutions, operating independently as a non-profit society.
This type of organization is being used by the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League.
In the 2021-22 BCIHL Season, the Okanagan Lakers became the first such team to operate. Their players came from the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) and Okanagan College, both of which are located in Kelowna, British Columbia [1].
In the 2022-23 BCIHL Season, the Logan Lake Miners became the second such team. Their players came from Thompson Rivers University (in Kamloops), Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (in Merritt), and Okanagan College (Kamloops Campus). Logan Lake is 58 km southwest of Kamloops and 51 km north of Merritt.
Teams previously scheduled to debut in 2022-23 (the Thompson Okanagan Pioneers from Kamloops and the Fraser Valley Brigade from Chilliwack) [2] both failed to come to fruition.
