Claude Legris (born November 6, 1956 in Verdun, Quebec) is a retired professional goaltender who played four games in the National Hockey League. He played with the Detroit Red Wings.
He played for the Sorel Éperviers of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 1972-76, winning the Jacques Plante Memorial Trophy in 1973-74. That win proved special for the league, as, even today, Legris remains the goaltender with the highest goals against average to ever win this trophy (4.50). The main reason behind this paradoxal crowning comes from him being part of the record-breaking 1973-74 edition of the Sorel Éperviers that shattered Canadian Hockey League records with 620 goals for scored during the regular season and went on to win 58 of the 70 games of the regular season.
The Detroit Red Wings selected him 120th overall in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft; the San Diego Mariners of the World Hockey Association did the same at the 1976 WHA Amateur Draft, 89th overall. After graduating from junior, Legris spent two senior seasons with the Campbellton Tigers and the Bathurst Papermakers. He turned pro in 1978 and, having opted for the Red Wings over the short-lived Mariners, he spent most of his career in the minors in the Red Wings system. He did play four games over two seasons for the Detroit Red Wings. His best performance came as he secured a tie in a 28 minutes effort where he stopped all 10 shots fired at him in 1981-82 - he also was credited an assist during the match.
He won the James Norris Memorial Trophy (IHL) in 1980-81.
Legris retired in 1983.
