Charles Henry Sands (March 23, 1911, in Fort William, Ontario – April 6, 1953) was a professional hockey right winger who played 12 seasons in the National Hockey League for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers. Sands won the Stanley Cup with Boston in 1939.
He started out in senior hockey in Fort William and Port Arthur and turned pro with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1932-33. In 1934 Burns was traded to the Boston Bruins for cash and played five full seasons there, winning the Stanley Cup in 1939.
Burns was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in 1939 with Ray Getliffe for Herb Cain in 1939. He played four seasons there before being loaned to the New York Rangers in 1943 in partial payment for the loan of Phil Watson.
After 1944 Burns moved to California. He was the player-coach of the Pasadena Panthers of the Pacific Coast Hockey League in 1944-45. He then played one season for the Los Angeles Monarchs and one for the Fresno Falcons before retiring in 1947.
In his NHL career, Sands played in 427 games and scored 99 goals and 109 assists.
