Junior A level hockey is equivalent to Junior C level in the rest of Canada. This level is more so a recreation level (but more competitive than Junior B) as their are no further playoffs beyond the league playoffs and the league playoffs are double elimination tournaments involving all of the teams in the league. Many of the leagues at this level also have either Junior AA and/or Junior B leagues run by the local hockey governing body.

There previously was a provincial championship, also known as the Coupe Dodge which is the same name as most of the other provincial championships sanctioned by Hockey Quebec, that was contested from 1995 to 2005 when this level was labeled as Junior BB.
