The Cape Breton Islanders were a Tier II Junior "A" team in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. They played in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League in the 1996-97 season.
In 1997-98 the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles started up as a team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Islanders changed their name to the Glace Bay Miners but they folded in mid-season as they could not compete against the higher-rated Eagles.
The Islanders played in the Centre 200 arena.
They finished with a 21-29-5-1-48 season in 1996-97, good for fourth place in the Maurice Bent Division.
