The Canadian Football League is a men's gridiron football league based in Canada.
In terms of ice hockey the league is most associated with the NHL Heritage Classic event. However, two additional events have been held in association with CFL venues, the NHL Centennial Classic and the NHL 100 Classic. As of the 2023-24 season, eight of the 9 (Montreal excluded) CFL teams have hosted an outdoor game at their venue including two teams (Saskatchewan and Hamilton) that are not in NHL cities.
Despite Montreal not hosting a stadium game; the Montreal Canadiens had been looking to host a game outdoors at Olympic Stadium as part of the Montreal Canadiens centennial celebration. The plans fell through for some reason despite it being possible as during that time frame the roof was being replaced at Olympic Stadium. Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, which is the home of the Montreal Alouettes and the McGill Redbirds football teams is the smallest capacity stadium (20,025) in the CFL and the Bell Centre is the largest capacity arena (21,105) in the NHL and would thus make it unfeasable for an outdoor game.
