
The Can-Am Junior Hockey League is a Canadian-American junior hockey league established in 2022.
History[]
- On January 5, 2022 the six teams that were still actively playing in the Western States Hockey League decided after meetings held at the Western States Shootout in Las Vegas to withdraw from the AAU and the league to form the Can-Am Junior Hockey League which would continue play for the balance of the 2021-22 season.[1]
Suspension of 2024-25 season[]
- On July 23, 2024 the league announced that it was going dormant for the 2024-25 season.[2]
- An August 26, 2024 post on the town and country today website indicated that the Barrhead Bombers had folded citing it was confirmed by the CAJHL league commissioner. The same post indicated that the Cold Lake Aeros were attempting to join the Alberta Junior Hockey League. It also stated new teams in the Calmar Riggers, based out of the Mike Karbonik Arena, and a to be named team in Lamont, Alberta as well as the possibility of American teams in the league when it resumes play.[3]
- On March 14, 2025 the league indicated that it would be returning for the 2025-26 playing season.[4]
- On April 24, 2025 the league announced the return of the Southern Alberta Mustangs to the league for the 2025-26 season under new ownership.[5] The team was included in the announcement of an Alberta Divison in the United States Premier Hockey League's Premier League for the 2025-26 season.[6]
- On May 7, 2025 the North West Junior Hockey League announced the addition of former Can-Am Junior Hockey League member the Hinton Timberwolves to the league for the 2025-26 season.[7] On July 29, 2025 the team issued a Facebook post stating that "Due to unforeseen circumstances the Hinton Timberwolves will not be participating this year."[8]
- The former Cold Lake Aeros of the Can-Am Junior Hockey League will join the Alberta Elite Junior Hockey League as the Cold Lake Moose for the 2025-26 season apparently as a reorganiztion of the program.
- A posting by the Pincher Creek Jr. Huskies indicated that they were trying to get into the United States Premier Hockey League's Premier League for the 2025-26 season. The USPHL would announce an Alberta Division on August 1, 2025 but the team was not included in the announced teams.[9]
- On August 1, 2025 the Alberta Elite Junior Hockey League announced the addition of the Vegreville Vipers to their league for the 2025-26 season.[10]
