Britni Smith is an ice hockey player for the St. Lawrence Skating Saints women’s ice hockey program.
Playing career[]

In 1995-96, Britni was playing in the Port Perry Minor Hockey in the tyke division with the boys. Eventually, she found herself with the Lakeridge Bullets triple ‘A’ boys team. From 2000 to 2002 she played with an Uxbridge Peewee ‘A’ team, again with the boys. [1]
In 2002, she moved to girls’ hockey joining the Durham West ‘A’ Bantam team. She was part of a team that won gold at the Provincials in 2002. She was later recognized as a top rated defensive player and was invited to Team Ontario’s ‘Under 18’ tryouts.
She made the Ontario Red team and was part of the team that won the gold medal that year at the National Championships, hosted in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. Smith played high school hockey in Port Perry, Ontario. She was captain of the Rebels High School hockey team in 2006. She graduated from high school as an Ontario Scholar.
Hockey Canada[]
In 2006, Team Canada’s Under 22 team invited Britni to their camp and she made the team. She played with the team every year until 2009. She participated in two Air Canada Cup tournaments, held in Germany, now known as the MLP Nations Cup. In both tourneys, she captured the gold medal.
NCAA[]
As a freshman in 2007, the Saints advanced to the Frozen Four in Lake Placid. Smith was named the Saints Rookie of the Year and selected to the ECAC All-Rookie team. In addition, she made the ECAC Academic team.
In 2009-10, Smith was one of three finalists for the top League defenseman award. In addition, she was one of 45 student-athletes nominated for the 2010 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. She earned ECAC Hockey Second Team honors in 2010 (also honored in 2009). She was part of the St Lawrence defense which only allowed 1.86 goals-per-game and gave up only four power-play goals in League games. In the season, she recorded eight multi-point games this season.
During the 2010-11 season, Smith was named the Skating Saints assistant captain. By January 2011, Smith has already set a new career-high with 25 points this season behind 8 goals and 17 assists. Smith has already climbed to No. 2 on the all-time defenseman scoring list in St. Lawrence University history with 74 career points, behind only Annie Guay with 103. In addition, Smith is only five goals shy of Guay’s career record (25).
Ball hockey[]
From 2004 to 2007, Smith participated in the Oshawa Minor Ball Hockey Association with the Oshawa Stampede. In 2004, she won bronze at the Women’s Provincial B tournament, where she was named tournament MVP. She was part of the Toronto Devils women’s ball hockey team at the women’s World Cup in Pittsburgh. At the tournament, they won the Silver Medal and she was the top scorer of the tournament.
In 2006 she was a member of Team Canada’s Women’s ball hockey team that represented Canada in the Inaugural Women’s World Cup Championships in Germany. The team won gold and she was named most valuable defenseman.She was also part of the 2007 World Championship team. [2]

Personal[]
Her oldest sister, Meghan, was an accomplished athlete on the soccer field and finished her Masters degree at Queen’s University. Her other sister, Meghan played three years with the York University girls team, capturing the silver medal at the Nationals. Her youngest sitster, Madison played on the North Durham Blades
