The Brian Kozak Memorial Award is presented annually to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's defenseman who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position. It was first awarded in 1977.
Brian Kozak was a talented rearguard for the Selkirk Steelers in the late sixties. In 1976, at the young age
of only 27, Brian succumb to cancer.
1981-82 winner Grant Ledyard went on to play over a thousand games in the National Hockey League.
